3D wood cut-outs are great to see in a decor theme. They are simple to create and when combined with one of our wall stickers they turn out amazing! In this example we are creating wood cut-outs which are a preferred material when there is interaction between people and your images.
To start our project we need a few materials; Jigsaw with medium/fine blade, brush/roller, flat black spray paint, charcoal pencil, wallpaper paste, wood material like MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), masonite, particle board, etc., polyurethane, and your wall sticker. |
Step 1: Start by taking your wall sticker and placing it face down. When you turn your wall sticker over you will be able to see the silhouette through the backing paper. |
Step 2: Using your charcoal pencil, firmly press down and outline the silhouette. |
Step 3: Turn your wall sticker face up over your wood material. Carefully place the wall sticker onto your wood material. Do not move the wall sticker once it is placed because it will smear the charcoal pencil mark on the back. Once you have it in place using your finger only, firmly press down and outline the silhouette of the wall sticker.
NOTE: if your are working with a large image use a little blue painters tape around the image to hold it in place on your wood material.
Step 4: Once you have outlined the image carefully lift off the wall sticker to reveal the transfer image onto your wood material. |
Step 5: OPTIONAL: If your charcoal transfer is not dark enough you may simply use a no.2 pencil and follow the outline to ensure that your outline is visable. |
Step 6: Using your jigsaw begin to cut around your line 1/4 inch out around your outline. This gap between the pencil line and the cut outline will allow you to adjust your image when you wallpaper it onto the wood cutout. |
Step 7: Now you should have your image silhouette cut out with a 1/4 inch space surrounding the outline. |
