This installation instruction is for those who have followed the instructions on Creating 3D Wood Cutouts using masonite wood as the base to apply your characters. Masonite is a light weight material that comes in 2 different sizes, 1/8” and 3/8” and they come as 4' x 8' sheets. If you desire to place your characters onto your walls this is the material of choice. Other woods like MDF are heavier and thicker and are too heavy to support by the description below.
Step 1: Start by taking your Character Cutout and position it in the place you want it to go. Once you know where you want to place it use 2" blue painters tape and tear multiple pieces and place them around the location where the character is going to go.
Step 2: Next, place the character face down. Using a Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive begin to outline the characters shape and then filling in the open spaces that remain.
NOTE: Construction adhesive will damage the walls when you remove the character cutout. So make sure you want it up for years to come.
Step 3: Position your character back over the location that you plan to place the character. When you are confident you have the location correct, firmly press the character onto the wall.
Step 4: Holding the character in place with one hand, use the other hand to take the pieces of tape you have placed around the character and begin taping the edges of the character to hold it in place.
NOTE: It may be necessary to have assistance when installing a large character.
Step 5: Once you have taped various places around the character allow the tape to remail for at least 8 hours to give the construction adhesive time to set up and begin drying.
Step 6: After you have waited 8 hours you may begin removing the blue tape. It is critical that when you remove the blue tape you pull the tape from the inside of the character outward. This will illuminate any chance of pulling the character from the wood masonite backing.
The final result will look seamless in your scenes. The construction adhesive will attach to just about any surface and will hold the character for a very long time.
